Disney Princesses

All the Disney Princess patterns are either complete or have a version available for testing.  Time is beating me but I wanted to have all patterns available before christmas.  If you need help with sewing order message me and I can fill them in for you.

Karen in Tucson has done an amazing job so far in sewing princess blocks.  Her latest is Merida - and I think she came out quite nicely.  Karen - do you have any corrections to the pattern before I take if off the testing list.

Here are the others Karen has done - fantastic job so far.

What Happened to Monday?

It's Wednesday here in Australia and it just occured to me that I missed my Monday posting - oops - better late than never.

As promised today we have Belle - the princess featured in Beauty and the Beast.

Belle lives in a small provincial French town.  When her father a local inventor becomes lost in the woods and ends up imprisoned in the Beast's castle, Belle offers herself in his place.

The Beast is a Prince placed under a spell for being arrogant.  The two eventually fall in love and the spell is broken

Belle

The pattern for Belle can be found over at on the Disney Princesses  page.  You can also find there other princess patterns available for testing.

Sorry it's not Belle

First of all sorry for posting so late and secondly sorry to all those people waiting on Belle for this week.  I had a blonde moment and did Snow White for this week instead.  I promise Belle will be up next week and if I get time I will put her up earlier.

Snow White was the first full length Disney Princess movie and has stood the test of time collecting new fans everyday.  She has been recreated many times and in different forms most recently by Kristen Stewart in Snow White and the Huntsmen, but the cartoon version remians my favourite.  Hope you enjoy Snow White.  For thise who had enquired - I will be doing Rapunzel and Merida from Brave.

Over the next week or so I will be posting patterns that are available for testing.

Todays offering is Simba as an adult from the Lion King.  Please feel free to test the pattern and get back to me.  The pattern can be found on the Lion King page of this blog.

Under the Sea

The Little Mermaid follows the age old dream of many little girls to grow up and marry a prince.  This in itself is a challenge for most girls let alone mermaids.  Ariel with the help of her friends Sebastian, Scuttle and Flounder eventually gets her man despite being double crossed along the way by a wicked sorceress.  Hope you enjoy Ariel.  The pattern can be found on the Disney Princesses page.  Coming next week Belle.

Are you feeling Sleepy?

Since the release of the Walt Disney movie in 1959 Sleeping Beauty has been a favourite among budding Princesses worldwide.

At the christening of Princess Aurora, 7 fairies are invited to be her godmothers.  The fairies gifts are beauty, wit, grace, dance, song  and the ability to play musical instruments.  Before the last fairy announces her gift an uninvited fairy called Maleficent offers her gift - the princess will prick her finger and die. The last fairy uses her gift  to partially reverse the wicked fairy's curse, proclaiming that Aurora will instead fall into a deep sleep for 100 years and be awoken by a king's son.

Despite her parents best attempts to protect her Aurora pricks her finger on her 16th birthday and falls into a deep sleep. Cue the Prince and the kiss and the happily ever after.

This is pattern three in the Disney Princesses series.  The pattern can be found on the Disney Princesses page.  Come back next week for Pattern 4 Arial.

Halloween Blog Hop

Somehow I missed out on the last blog hop that one of my friends hosted recently so I was keen to participate in this one.

Being Australian Halloween is very small here compared to the USA.  However for some reason literally hundreds of kids come to our street every Halloween.  I boycotted last years festivities after my Jack O Lantern that I had lovingly  carved the year before was smashed by a disgruntled teenager after we ran out of candy.

The crowds have gotten so big that groups of my neighbours are now banding together to make getting the candy more of a challenge for the children and also so we don't feel so raped, pillaged and exhausted when it is all over.  The use of tents and sheets etc makes it more of a game and gives the local children more places to hide when they want to scare the trick or treaters.

So to my block.  I wanted to do something a bit scary and not too traditional.  It is called Frankie's Boy and is obviously Frankensteins monster.  I hope you enjoy.  For those who know me already - you know I love doing faces so I couldn't resist another one here.  Just click the link under the photo or go to movies tab on my home page.

For new visitors to my blog I am also doing a series of Disney Princesses (the next one will be out soon).  I have been away from my blog a bit lately as I was overseas in Hong Kong during my children's school holidays and on my first day back my cat was diagnosed with terminal cancer - so forgive if I have been a bit preoccupied.  It was a big shock and she doesn't have much time left.

If you are interested in becoming a pattern tester please message me as I am always looking for new people as I design much faster than I sew.

By Popular demand - Moaning Myrtle

I have so many patterns that have not ben posted yet.  Most of them are over on fandominstitches.com but if you find any that are not let me know and I will put them on.

Today we have Moaning Myrtle.  I created her in all blues so she looked like a ghost and then overlaid the pieced of her with organza so she had that ghostly shimmer.  That took ages to double layer but was worth it.  She has a finished size of 7 x 8.5 inches,

You can find her on the Harry Potter page. Hope you like her - again.

meet the ancestors - Pocahontas

This weeks Disney Princess is very close to my heart.  I am a direct descendent of Pocahontas.  My sister is the family tree expert of my family and has verified our direct lineage from Pocahontas.

The real Pocahontas

The Disney Version

The disney version is sweet but the real story happened this way.

Pocahontas was the daughter of chief Powhatan and her real name was Matoaka. Pocahontas was her childood nickname.  Pocahontas was only 11 when she first met John Smith who was 28.  John Smith was captured by the Indians when he got separated from his expedition.  He was not on his way to meet Pocahontas at the time.  He did not meet Pocahontas until he was to be executed and she rescued him.  John Smith was adopted into the tribe and he and Pocahontas became friends.  She visited often and helped the colonists when food was short.

John Smith was injured in an accident and returned to England but Pocahontas was told he had died.  She stopped visiting after that.  Pocahontas was captured and held hostage.  While being held hostage at Jamestown in 1613, she met colonist John Rolfe, a successful tobacco planter and sincere Christian. She converted to Christianity and married him in April 1614.  She changed her name to Rebecca.

The Rolfes had one child, Thomas Rolfe, whom they brought to England with them. When Pocahontas died on the way back, Thomas was also sick, and was left behind to be raised by relatives. John Rolfe would never see him again.

So here is the pattern for this week - hope you like it.  You can find the pattern on the Disney Princesses page or at fandominstitches.com.

I'll make a man out of you

One of my favourite Disney Princesses is first in my new series - Mulan.  Based on a legendary Chinese woman who takes her fathers place in the army and fights for 12 years before retiring back to her home village.

In the Disney version in typical Disney princess fashion she falls in love and gets her man (Shang) in the end.  She is helped along the way by a cricket and a miniature sized dragon.

Hope you enjoy the first in my new series of patterns Disney Princesses.
It is a 10 inch block.
You can find the pattern on the Disney Princesses page and also on fandominstitches.com

If anyone wants the pattern for Shang let me know.
